The Montane Forest (Yungas) Screech Owl (Megascops hoyi) has been discovered in 1987 by K~nig and Straneck and described in 1989 as a species new to science. This owl inhabits montane cloud forests of the Eastern Andes and their foothills in northern Argentina and southern Bolivia between about 900 and 2800 m above sealevel.
In 2000 and 2001 Claus and Ingrid Koenig succeeded in filming for the first time this new owl in its natural habitat. This film is an unique document on a fascinating owl in its endangered ecosystem.
Moreover, some typical habitats and birds of the Andean slopes in northern Argentina are shown, as well as similar owl species and other birds in lowland rainforests near Iguazua near the Brazilian border of northeast Argentina.
The DVD is of excellent quality with beautifull close-ups of the owls and other birds.
